A weekend in the Baie de Somme and Côte d'Opale: our itinerary

All articles

Between the Baie de Somme and the Côte d'Opale, the Conchil-le-Temple area packs wild dune landscapes, Belle Époque seaside resorts and medieval heritage into a single weekend, all within a 20 km radius. Here's a suggested two-day itinerary, designed for a cottage stay without constantly moving the car.

Day 1 — Nature and fresh air

Mornings are ideal for the Baie d'Authie and seal watching as the tide goes out, just minutes from the cottage. In the afternoon, head to Fort-Mahon-Plage (11 km) for a taster session of sand yachting or kitesurfing on its 14 km of fine sand — two activities emblematic of the Picardy coast, available year-round. Families with children might prefer Parc Bagatelle in Merlimont, France's oldest amusement park.

Day 2 — Heritage and good food

Head to Montreuil-sur-Mer (17 km), a fortified medieval town with Vauban ramparts, for a morning of sightseeing and market browsing. In the afternoon, Le Touquet-Paris-Plage (19 km) unfolds its Belle Époque villas, pine forest and covered market renowned for seafood. Nature lovers will find the Parc du Marquenterre (13 km) the perfect way to round off the itinerary, with its bird sanctuaries.
